RE: Larger Revolver

There are some really nice quality analog servos out there for a great price. When I think of digital servos, I think of large throws with high accuracy and torque (3D or helis). I just don't think...

RE: Larger Revolver

Good point, Dan. I never thought about that. I have a little ratchet with a screwdriver bit on it. I wonder if I can get that in there?

RE: Larger Revolver

Okay, so here are some pictures of my throttle setup, which I had to change around a little bit because of the ASP 120 4-stroke I'm using.

1st image: Shows how the throttle arm falls to the...

RE: Larger Revolver

Yeah, my original thought was, "At least it wasn't the elevator that went", because then you'd be picking up the pieces.

I didn't drill the hole for to allow the CA to wick in better or pin my...

RE: Larger Revolver

Sonny,

Thanks for posting the pictures of your OS 120 setup. My ASP 120 is slightly different. I'll post some images after lunch to show what I mean.

RE: Larger Revolver

I agree - the elevator pushrod setup worried me, so I used the Dave Brown fiberglass pushrod system. No chance of it slipping now. I posted a picture here:

RE: Larger Revolver

I'm going to need some help from the few of you that have mounted a 120 4-stroke in your plane.

So I mounted the fuel tank in the plane and went to mount the throttle servo, but ran into a...

RE: Larger Revolver

*sigh* It would be funny if it wasn't so true. Although I was allowed to escape for a couple of hours on Saturday to fly.

Sure - you're on... let's see who gets this bird up first.

RE: Larger Revolver

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issued getting to the field because of the young ones (misery loves company!). I am about 2 years ahead of you, Mike, with a 2.5 year old and 5 year old. Not...

RE: Larger Revolver

Okay... here is a picture of the cowl on my smaller Revolver. I believe I measured the area of the front openings, and then made a rectangular cut in the back of the cowl that was 3 times the area.

RE: Larger Revolver

On my smaller revolver, I cut out some of the cowl on the bottom near the firewall. I'll post a picture of it later. I think the general rule is to have 2 to 3 times the area cutout in the back of...

RE: Larger Revolver

Well, when I first put the 120 4-stroke on this plane I thought it looked huge, but now that the cowl is cut out and placed on, it doesn't look too bad to me. Even the muffler coming out the side...

RE: Larger Revolver

What percent nitro are you using with you Saito 100, Slats? I've read thatvthe Magnum 120 can turn an APC 15x8 at about 8800 RPM using 10% nitro, so it sounds like your Saito 100 has lots of power,...

RE: Larger Revolver

Dan,

I'm happy with the Dubro gear, so I'm willing to part with the OEM ones. We can either try to meet again, or I can just leave them in the trailer at the field for you. Let me know. I'm...

RE: Larger Revolver

So I finally got around to mounting my ASP 1.20 4-stroke and started cutting the cowl out. As it turns out, my concerns about the spinner being too close to the cowl were unwarranted - I have about...

RE: Larger Revolver

From the sound of previous posts, I think a Saito 100 would be great for this plane. Sonny (Jet22b) has flown an O.S. 91 4-stroke in it and that provides enough power except in a couple of...

RE: Larger Revolver

Yeah, I agree, Mike, I've seen that SkyTrace before and it looks cool.

The Canmore will log altitude, and you can see the plot in Google Earth. I just don't think it is super accurate since it...

RE: Larger Revolver

I have a similar GPS tracker as Frankeldan. It's a CanmoreGT-730F/L that I wired to run off one of the receiver channels. At $40 it was a great buy. The battery and quarter are for size reference....

RE: Larger Revolver

The manual says a good servo is the Futaba S9001. That servo has 54 oz-in torque at 4.8v and 72 oz-in at 6.0v. So, I would think anything equal to or greater than that should be sufficient. I have JR...

RE: Larger Revolver

Sonny,

I was also surprised to find that there wasn't that much of a difference between the .91 and 1.20 4-strokes. It must be partially due to the weight increase. I wonder if I should bother...

RE: Larger Revolver

I glassed the engine mount/firewall area both inside and outside. I wanted a little extra reinforcement before bolting the heavier engine to it.

I also reinforced the inside area where the nuts...

RE: Larger Revolver

Here are some miscellaneous views with the engine on the plane. I'm planning on reinforcing the wood with fiberglass. I also put in a picture of my elevator pushrod setup (Dave Brown).
