RE: Larger Revolver

Only if it's less stable one way or the other. The reason to choose one over the other is accuracy. It's easier to be accurate when the plane co-operates with you. When it's trying NOT to balance...

RE: Larger Revolver

Balance it near the suggested and set the elevator throws near suggested and fly the sucker. THEN decide if you want or need to shift something or change your throws or leave it alone.

RE: Larger Revolver

The CG is really just a starting point. If you run the formulas, you'd discover there is a fairly broad CG range where the plane should fly quite safely with the suggested elevator throws. That's...

RE: Larger Revolver

You might give other 15x6 props a try. Look for one with more blade area and one with less. Try 'em both. Props match up to engines and the drag of the plane the engine is pulling by their blade...

RE: Larger Revolver

There is a thread started in the RC Simulator forum here at RCU about the Revolver.

In it there is mention how it was modified and about the 4 or 5 downloadable Revolvers on the Knife Edge...

RE: Larger Revolver

This actually isn't the thread about battery problems of any kind.

It's expected that posts on a topic be about the topic. It makes sense and it's good manners.

Please don't spin a topic...

RE: Larger Revolver

kewl

These forums can be a source of good info, can't they. :D

You made a great buy there. The S3010s have better than average power for standards and are reasonably priced. Also, they...

RE: Larger Revolver

Hey Widget, those S3010s are just wimpy ol' standards that only sell for $25 each. They are only 72oz-in @ .20 sec/60*. Nothing like those bumper winch monsters mentioned earlier. ;)

But...

RE: Larger Revolver

The 91FX that pulls around a Sukhoi the size and weight of the larger Revolver just about pulls the firewall off with an Evolution 15x6 two blade or the 14x7(3) MAS.

I did prop tests for that...

RE: Larger Revolver

Can you put one on? I'd suggest putting two at least.

I don't know what a Saito100 can turn, but if it's about as powerful as an OS75AX, try a MAS 13x8(3).

If the 13x8(3) is too much...

RE: Larger Revolver

It would be nice for everyone to leave out the advice to one another, and any discussion of one another at all as this forum is about ARFs and this thread is about the Larger Revolver.

If you...

RE: Larger Revolver

BTW, I no longer give much weight to the pitch marked on any mfg's prop. For example, deciding to test a prop because the mfg says it's got a 8" pitch and I don't think an 8" would work has kept...

RE: Larger Revolver

A flying buddy of mine started trying different props on his 75AX/Revolver. Nobody else was paying him any attention until he started dancing around. We thought a bee had stung him. Turns out he...

You don't need to repost it because you can edit that post and remove it, then put it back.

I suspect the fin was built incorrectly at the factory. And...

RE: Larger Revolver

That fin/rudder angle story is a worry.

Full scale often built incidence into airplanes like the Me109 to deal with torque. However, it sounds like the offset reported is opposite from what...

RE: Larger Revolver

So that we might understand something about the sensitivity of the Larger Revolver to weight changes, I worked out how far the CG would be shifted on a 8.87lb model the size of the Revolver.

...

RE: Larger Revolver

The fin is built into the fuselage by the factory.

Can you attach a picture?

RE: Larger Revolver

Tower lists the smaller Revolver as 2720 - 3180g

Convert g to oz and you have 0.03527 x 3180 = 112 oz

112 oz = 7 lbs

sounds right to me

RE: Larger Revolver

Yes, there will be an effect on the CG. It will be in proportion to the change in mass versus the mass of the whole. The 46size revolver is about 3000g. Change that by 27g and there will some...

RE: Larger Revolver

What decides the width of the CG range are a couple of things.

area of the wing
width of the wing's chord
area of the horizontal tail
how far back that tail is

Yup, it's an...

RE: Larger Revolver

A lighter prop really isn't going to move the Cg more than a hair. The idea surprised me so I went down to the shop and weighed a couple of proprs the size I run on my .75AX. They range from 1.4...

RE: Larger Revolver

The mfg suggests a safe CG and knows to consider that the weight of the wood used in each model will vary.

Experienced modelers know that the suggested CG is only a starting point and that the...

RE: Larger Revolver

Yeah, tape the battery where you think it'll go, and find out exactly where the CG winds up. It may surprise you. May not. But find out what you're about to fly.

Knowing exactly where it is...

RE: Larger Revolver

So use a tank you know works and a short piece of tubing to connect temporarily, just to see if the engine draws fuel. Rubber band or masking tape or ROPE it on. The idea is just to hold it so your...
