A quick google shows microwaves starts at 1Ghz to over 100Ghz so 900Mhz is close but could give you a second chance but so many factors come into play so who knows.

I believe it's an audio tone(coming out of the radio) that changes frequency/tone as your aircraft ascends or descends. Mostly used by glider pilots to clue them in if they are catching thermals.
