Mario, if you and your friends have a channel that you post flying videos to on youtube.. Make sure to list it here... Its always nice to find more videos during the cold winter months! I know there are active groups of WW1 fliers around the entire world !

Hello Friends, some update on the building.
I hope to make the maiden flight next Wednesday. Lets see if the weather will help. Engine is tuned, radio set.
Fuse view
Melting lead
there were necessary 2 lead plates, 470g each, to get the correct CG
Cockpit pilot protection
Fixture to keep wings in place for transport and wings assembly at the fuse. It works fine.
Wings center accessories
Some accessories still missing. We never finish a Scale model!
Well, cross your fingers for the first flight.

Hi Guys, I had forgotten to check back on this thread for some time. Great to see more SPAD XIII s out there. The one that started this thread is still going strong. Here is flight number 180.
After too many failed crankshafts on the VV40, it is now powered by the OS 33 gas engine that I showed earlier.

What is my model doing in the US?!!!!!
just joking. Twin models with same color scheme.
Beautifull flight.
Some qustions:
how much balast weigh you had to put in the nose?
i just flew 2 times, and at a grass runway.During take off, my one has first a trend to go to the right and after getting some speed, to the left! Have you noticed something like this at yours?
Thank you!!!

With the VV40 I added about 5 oz of lead to the lower cowl. When I replaced the engine (OS 33) I did not need the 5 oz, so now it flies with no nose weight added. If you look back through this post you'll see I mounted everything as far forward as possible.
My SPAD shows the same tendency as yours on take-off: Starts pulling to the right, then swings to the left. But easy to control with the rudder when you anticipate it. And definitely easier to fly off grass than a paved runway!!
I hope you get as much enjoyment from yours as I have had from mine. It has taken a few awards since I started flying it:

In the end, he agreed to swapping the VV40 for a different brand engine, which I'll use in my next project.
Hopefully you will be one of the customers who has no problems.

Hello N,
Hello Noel,
I was also in touch with Selfridge Museum, they were very kind and supported me with all information I needed.
Incredible , I had to put about 2 pounds in the cowl to reach the correct CG!
Congrats for the prizes you won.
Best,
Mario
Hi Mario, I was fortunate to know the leader of the team that built the replica that is at the Selfridge Museum in Michigan, so got to take many photo's of it. I was even permitted to go inside the railings for detail pictures. Then I took the completed model to the museum for the pictures - see post #23 towards the bottom of page one (this forum post). For me there was no doubt what color scheme I'd choose!

I started out using a Xoar WWI prop, but after the first VV40 engine failure, I switched to conventional Xoar. I don't think I have used a WWI prop on the OS engine.

Hi Shaun,
sure you are right, this was the sound track theme from some series....
I also don’t remember what one!
It was available at the SW I used to edit the video.
