Picked this up from a ( friend lol ) mice droppings in the wings , warped fuse, mold, missing center wing ribs, hole in cowl for a glow engine.
I rebuilt the tail from Gold Edition plans, added retracts , flaps , all scratch built interior.
I had to compromise of many scale elements -examples
front gear rake is not forward because I could get the proper clearance for the prop I wanted if I angled the gear. Also angeling the gear increasing the wheel was not an option.
Scale cockpit was scratched for a baby seat elevated view lol but no choice because I worked on my CG during the build phase and I would need to locate my 6 cells under the cockpit .
I have not maiden my P39 yet and my growing concern is reading many thread on the dreaded “flat spin” of this design !!!!

CAD designed, laser-cut wing:

Shear webs laid out

Initial framing of both panels

Close-up of carbon fiber rods and spruce spars

Although this wing was designed for retracts, I am modifying these for fixed gear, because my current fuse plug is designed only for fixed gear. (And, that is one less thing to go wrong when reliability is the key for a successful racing season.).
But to make it up to the scale aficionados, I am trying scale split flaps for the first time. (Fingers crossed)

Testing the fit of the first wing-half to the fuse, now that it is far enough along to remove from the wing-jig.

First panel roughed-out. Bottom view. Flap and aileron servo hatches are visible -- as is the unfinished split flap assembly.

Two new scale wings after fiberglassing the center section (right and middle). On the left, is a wing "Frankensteined"/cannibalized from two older hand-cut prototype wings that were previously crashed. On one wing, the right panel survived; and, on the other wing, the left panel survived. My original prototype wings were not scale. They were stretched-out four inches from true scale, and had full-span ailerons.

"Surprise Attack" being finished-up. Older, worn spinner being utilized for maiden flight (in case the worse happens). Two other P-39s visible on rack in background.

Can’t wait to work on this one next. Topflite Gold edition P39. Rumor told it was Topflites show plane. Taken to shows. Amazingly built. It had servos and stuff in the wings, airlines Ran but was all covered and painted over. I found the holes opened them up and everything in place and working. Never flown or even fully set up. Won’t take much. Have a OS .91 FX I am going to run. Leave it as shown. Won’t touch a thing.

Who ever built this plane did a amazing job and did it right. After all these years it’s still mint. Kinda a historic piece.

Hello P-39 Brotherhood I just purchased the TF GE P-39 kit. I have located a company who is duplicating the TF cockpit kit and I have just purchased the Robart nose gear. I working on scanning this thread and would like to hear how the GE flies. Oh, and sign me up to the brotherhood.

Thank you!

I was thinking of using a Saito in mine a FA-65 or FA-72. The engine compartment looks tight so I may have to rethink my choice. Did you use a 3 blade or 2 blade propeller?
