Awesome bird! Truly amazing what is being produced these days. However, I just want to know one thing, where in the world did you get that K&S display complete with metal sheet and tubing that I see in the back of your shop? My shop should be that well equipped! Look forward to seeing your new Arrow fly.

Without answering for him, I think he got it from a shop that was going out of business. I think I remember him talking about it on another site.

Several years back there was a hardware store going out of business. He had a fully stocked display. I finally talked him down to $75. I also got the full 36" display, music wire, brass etc..
for $50. I am about set for life... I am very blessed...

"Straight as an arrow" I have seen a couple of kit builts fly. They seem to have an interesting roll and are a little fast on landing, but that plane is beautiful in the air and the two engines stir the mind. I love my german baby.

Ok guys I changed the Name of the thread. Christmas Has come and gone... Looking to a new year...

I got the Sierra Gear in today and all I can say is WOW... You can see on the nose gear that the steering arm engages and disengages with retraction. Man that is nice. They are also a lot more scale looking than the ESM Gear... You do have to do minor changes to the gear plates. Mainly widen them a little...

The wooden piece the gear mounts to in the plane. For example. The nose gear. The plate it mounts to is 1-1/8" wide. You need to widen it to 1-5/16" and open the plate a little more froward. The Sierra gear it beefer and has a little larger footprint. I have not cut into the wing yet but you have to widen those plates a little also....

I just got these in tonight. Have not had time to test fit them. The nose leg is shorter than the ESM gear. The ESM gear had the nose way up in the air. About 20 degrees of positive. Sierra shortened the nose leg to have a scale look of the prototype..

Ok I figured I better show what has to be done to install the nose gear. The width of the rails are 1-3/16". So they need to be opened up by 1/8" each side. You also have to lengthen the end of the rail to where you leave just 1/4"...away from the front former... You also have to relieve some of the vertical former. Its 9/16". I took up about 1/8" off of that...

You do have to open up a new way for the steering arms to go through. I think the gear plates are strong enough to support the nose gear but if you want to beef them up that will be fine too. any nose weight added will be useful. In the end I did add a 1/8" A/c Ply to to the top of the plate so I did not have to cut away more of the vertical former.... I also cut about 1/4" forward and 3/16" toward the rear from the fiberglass fuse to allow the gear to go in. Here are pics of how you have to rotate the gear to move in place...

Here is how it looks in place. The leg is shorter that the ESM But as I have said before the ESM gear make the nose stand way up in the air in a non scale manor....

Hey Ty,
My ESM Do335 just arrived as well. I bought the ESM gear but wonder if using the shorter Sierra gear will cause trouble on take-off.
Are the main gears on the Sierra shorter as well?
As the plane rotates, will the vertical fin clear the ground?

I'm also going electric and will be interested to see your setup.
Also, I will purchase one of your cockpit kits for the Do335 when available.

Ok the Main legs on the Sierra are not shortened. Only the nose gear. If you read about other who fly this plane it should be taken off without much rotation. Having the main gear the same length as the sierra would not change the occurrence of the tail fin hitting anyway. I just don't believe the ESM gear will hold up over time and you would be replacing the tail fin in the end anyway... Don't take that the wrong way. I have just been bitten by the bad ESM gear bug in the past.....

OK,
Here is what has to be done for the main gear. I took the main gear plate and marked of 1/8" all the way around. Both the plate and the vertical part of the rib. Here is a pic before and after. You do have to make a opening on the skin and next inboard rib for the scissors so the wheel can moved all the way in...The gear drops in pretty nicely and easily. I did have to remove a 1/4" instead of the 1/8 " at the bottom of the rib where the air cylinder is...

Once you have it cut out the gear drops right in. The Largest wheel you will be able to use is a 5" wheel. Any bigger and you would have to cut into the side of the fuse. I would flip the air cylinder over so that I don't have to cut out an area to access it. I'll mention that to Darrell to see if that could be done on his end. if not its an easy fix.....

First of all don't mind the mess in the shop... Anyway I dropped a straight linse down the fuse to what appeared to be the thrust line. I had the fuse sitting in a stationary position, The incidence meter readi 1 degree positive... I then moved it to the centerline on the rib. The showed 3 degrees positive. So the wing sets at about 2 degrees positive to the thrust line.....

Hey Mr. Dj,
I'm playing with the Hitec 645 servo. Looks too big for the elevator and rudder on my DO without doing some trimming or rebuilding of the servo box. Is your box bigger than mine?[X(] The HS 5245mini is a better fit and lighter but not as much torque. At 6v, is 76oz of torque enough on a plane this big? Granted it is 76oz per side. Thoughts by anyone?
