Default Buying wing connectors in bulk

If you are like me, you usually build your jets with a single connector for the servos, retract and brakes. Various hobby sources are selling these connectors under various brand names and for like 10 to 20x or more what they are actually worth when purchased in bulk. Further the number of terminals provided is the exact count so usually it is needed to buy some spares.

Over the last few weeks I spent a few hours to research how to get these connectors in bulk. I thought I would share with this community with the hope that someone will find it helpful. The links are for Digikey. I have no affiliation with them. They just offered the best search feature and let consumers buy at bulk price in pretty much any quantity.

When bought in bulk, you need to buy the plastic plug, the plastic receptacle as well as the male and female compatible terminals.

So called "ashlok" connectors

Hope this helps!

Awesome!! Thanks!!!!

What did you use for filters to find the amp connectors? Would like to be able to find the other sizes like 12 pin for running lights in the wings as well. 20 plus pin for single wing connections etc..

My favorite connectors are the Amp D3000 series. They are available from 4-pin to 20-pin.
Here is a copy of a recent order from Digi-Key. Finding the right part numbers is the hardest part, there are so many variations for each piece.

Amp D-3 series....same ones I've been using for awhile. They can handle the current draw, and repeated connect/disconnect cycles.

I like the D-3000 series because they are easy to handle and make a positive 'click' when connected.

I've been buying them from Hansen Hobbies. Pretty good prices as well.

I have used Powerbox wire with the D-3000 connectors. They will crimp down to 24AWG. Powerbox wire is non-standard size, it's not a common AWG or Metric size. It's about 21AWG but with smaller diameter insulation. Not my favorite wire.

There are many sources for wires. For example, I like this one: https://www.robotshop.com/products/s...hoC9OgQAvD_BwE

There might be better / cheaper alternatives out there.

For JR connectors (typical servo connectors), I buy them from Amazon...

The Muldental wire seems to work well but very hard to find in the USA. I have a contact in Europe (Marek), the SU-30 builder, that will ship me spools. If you have friends in Europe, maybe barter with them?

From where can one buy 20AWG Futaba Silicone wire? Preferably from Europe as that is where I am located, however, all options are considered.
Thanks.

Yes thanks! In fact I managed to locate them in Germany and will be contacting them later on today. Hopefully they will also be able to supply loose (male & female) Futaba plugs (with gold contacts) as well.
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated!

Great news! I did mention the Muldental wire in the post above you but you may have missed it. Good luck and happy crimping!

I saw a post where Danny from AeroPanda puts a small shrink tube over the servo wire and then crimps that on the AMP connectors. These are my preferred connectors and I will be using his idea going forward.

I found the ICrimp tools from Amazon to work excellent. For the price they are well worth it. They work for servo connectors (Dupont 2.54) and the AMP D3000 series.
