Nice article about building experience of the SAB Avio Drake Jets from pilot Jim Thompson. Thanks Jim for the write up.

Hi
I test flew my Drake a few weeks ago.
I configured my Drake with a CB200, Cortex pro ,Jeti receivers and Ditex servos and a Rhino200
Testflight I had 2 issues
1.) The take off run was very long took 500ft to rotate , maybe because I had the thrust vectoring OFF
Did you test fly with the Thrust vectoring ON ?
2) The Gear was checked for proper operation on the ground and everything worked fine, but refused to retract after take off
It worked again when checked on the ground after landing
Is there some setting on the control unit for the stall current , probably the loads were too much in the air ?
3) Aileron was way too sensitive and I had to dial in about 37% gain on the gyro to tame it
4) Elevator took about 66% UP trim , Probably too nose heavy
Whats the correct CG ?
5) Can you fly a normal flight with the Thrust vectoring ON ?

Hi Nandan, are you taking off in grass or pavement? My Rhino powered Drake gets off the ground very quickly without VT, but even quicker with VT on.

yes the Ailerons are very effective and the Drake rolls EXTREMELY fast!

I am not sure where my CG ended up, but I have taken all the nose weight out that I put in, I think I am tail heavy now as the jet is now a handful with gyro off. So once weather gets good enough to fly more I will to some more tests. I started off exactly where the manual stated.

As for the gear, correct you most likely need to program the correct current limits in the control box. did you set up per below PDF?
