Default News about elevator failure?

I also have a Skygate Bae Hawk with the elevator servos in the tail, I almost lost it one day when waiting for a ultralight to land with the turbine running a long time i noticed the rear hatch started to swell and deform from the heat and was touching the elevators enough that if I would have flown it would have not centered well or can cause the servos to burn.
we reinfoced the hatch and did not install the scale elevator side covers so the hot air can escape.and now taking care not to idle too long on the ground.
I had hundreds of flights prior to that incident and another hundred after the mod.
ok now we are finishing the build on my Tomahawk F86 I am from the Philippines shipping and taxes from Germany alone came to like 6Kusd. Any news on why the others crashed? My avonds F15 is 10 years old and still flying and want my other models to be as old. I am so concerned with what is mentioned in the thread.

Toti
Thank you for posting. I am currently, sometimes, finishing a 1/5 Skymaster F86. I developed some concern about heat on servos inside the fuselage tail area. Mine was most likely an early production kit. I ordered some replacement parts including hardware. I also noticed they changed from control surface operating plastic body ball joints to all metal ball joints in that area. I am planning a heat shield and a positive air flow tube back to that area. I dont have a link to it but, I read an article that just 120 degrees F can reduce servo power by 1/2 or at least a large number. On an 85 F day it would not take much turbine heat to reach that in a mostly closed fuselage.

PS Ducati as in Desmo?

I have two Airworld Hawks with stab servos in the tail.
I was worried about the possible effects of heat in the region.
As protection , I placed a balsa sheet screen, below the servos and above the pipe, which was faced with foil covered heat blanket, foil towards the pipe. This effectively isolated the servo compartment.
I checked the temp. in the area with a probe and found the temp rise to be negligible even at prolonged idle, worst case scenario.

Both models still going strong after almost 10 years and 300 flights. !

DG.

Hi

From my research no one made slats operative but I want to do it. The problem is that the wing is closed for work so I was planning to make 5 rails in each wing (male and female) to guide each slat and put 2 servos for each wing

The problem is how to work inside the wing an find concave rails to make the slat go forward and down.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks

Nuno

If you are on Facebook, Emillo Bruzzone has one with Slats that was built by Airtech in Germany

Hi All

For those that have the slats glued down, did you use Hysol to glue them down or other type of material. ?

Thank you.
