roknHS
If you are referring to the plastic simulated access plate I must confess that I am guilty of adding this to the model although not last minute it was planned. I also can not take full credit for adding this as Piper thought of this first

Mine showed up Friday............the V brace in the front windshield area was knocked loose...........nothing broken........have to reglue with some canopy glue I guess.
The plane is nicely done. A lot more scale features than the 1/4 scale J3.................
Cowl panel lines and rivets are excellant...........corrugated metal look on the flaps and ailerons is excellant..........landing gear detail is very good............removeable greenhouse roof is a nice feature...........trailing edge of the wing has been machined concave so the flaps and ailerons can be attached with no hinge gap.............landing and wing lights are a nice touch. The only funky thing I see is the weird little plywood doubler that fits on the outside of the fuselage at the leading edge of the horizontal stab. That looks like something Nitro Planes would have come up with for one of their cheaper than dirt designs.
Why did you do that Mr. Brundle????? .............................it looks like a last minute add on that should have been added to the inside of the fuselage........not the outside.

That plate replicates the plate on the full-scale. It's where the leading edge of the horizontal stab , which is raised and lowered by a hand crank in the cockpit to trim the airplane, passes through the fuselage. It's on all J-3 and Super Cubs.

Yes the plate is designed to be removed to gin access to the incidence jack screw when maintenance is needed

Hmmmm...........guess I didn't know what I was looking at..........I'll be damned. I've flown in some cubs and never noticed that plate........my mistake.

As I said earlier...........the plane is very well done.........my apologies Mr. Brundle...............it was a Piper thing.

Glad you thought of the jackscrew access cover. Perfect little scale touch. Nothing about it is structural, as some would guess. The only thing im going to add to the cover is a little piece of black covering under the panel to simulate the open slot. Do this on all my stick built J-3's and PA-18's. Nice touch Bill. Saved me from haveing to make one and paint it. Thanks! I will also say Bill that I was not keen on the black N#'s, but as I have been assembling the model, they appeal to me more and more. Nice contrast with the blue. I like them now! Great Job H9!

Does anyone know if the Magnum/ASP 1.60 twin glow engine will fit inside the cowl on this one?
Hey Jeepindog, I just test fit my OS 1.60 twin in the cowl for you, and it's a perfect fit. No cutting, and plenty of room on each side of the rocker covers. So, the Magnum/ASP 1.60 will fit exactly the same as they are direct clones of the OS 1.60. Go ahead and put one in there, she will be sweet. You may have to lower the fuel tank though, not sure. I did have to lower the tank in my DP Super Cub to get the correct fuel draw when mounting a OS 1.60.

Hi all,

It looks like one of the intended power plants for this model is the Zenoah G-26. I'm leaning towards the electronic ignition version of the engine (I have a G20EI in both my H9 Cub, and H9 Taylorcraft), but I wonder if the extra weight of the ignition and battery will mean I'll need to add a lot of weight in the tail? I'm assuming the prototype used the magneto version of the G-26 engine? Thoughts?

I do not think this airframe will require any tail weight with that setup. The only way I see this airframe needing tail weight is if someone tried to mount a G62 or something crazy like that. The prototype had the Saito 1.82 twin, and just the engine alone with no mufflers, accessories or anything weighs 44 oz. They also had a glow driver mounted and twin large batteries. The Zenoah EI total weigh with muffler and everything else weighs 46 oz. So I am sure you will have no problems at all.

I am interested to know when cubs started to make their flaps and ailerons etc. out of alu with the corrugated metal look ...All the ones I have ever seen have been made out of pipe and covered with fabric....I thought the Corrugated metal thing was more of a cessna thing...I think it looks great though....And it must be somthing from the newer models ...Are these planes available yet ? If so where do you order them from?

To answer your question, yes it is available. Here are a few pics of mine that I picked up today from my LHS. As most of you probably already know, this thing is big. I have a pic of it next to my E-Flite PA-18 which has a 68" span. There is a quarter in some of the photos to give you a reference.

As what was noted in an earlier post, this arf is of excellent quality and everything is top notch and I have not found any damage.

What a Beaut...I am trying for one for Christmas...I love Cubs..I have 2 BUSA 1/3 J 3 Cubs one on floats and one on wheels...I dorked the wheel one and need to repair the wing...I a 1/4 scale sig Cub that I fly almost every time out...I am building a 1/4 scale BUSA J 3 Cub that will have a Gemini twin..I am putting a lot of time into this one...I also have two 1/5 Cubs...A hanger 9 ARF that I won. It is still in the box and the one that got me started..A Great Planes Fabric Covered Cub with robart gear on it and a few other mods that I have done to keep it flyable...I dont really need another Cub but when does need ever come into it .. This New Super Cub caught my attention and I just cant get it out of my mind...I love it...I think I will put it on floats...I have a set of foam floats that are made for a 1/4 Cub...They dont need much work...I would like to watch your build as it progresses...Keep the pics comming....What motor are you using?

Thanks for posting the pics Z06, especially the one with the fuselage sitting next to the SC 25e. I currently have the E-Flite and was thinking about getting the Hangar 9 version. You've sold me just on that one pic!

A friend of mine has the E Flight Cub and I have never been more impressed with an ARF .. How would you compare this new Hanger 9 Cub with the E Flight Cub ? Now that you have had a chance to really look it over...How well is it put together and what is the quality of the hardware etc. etc. I was wondering about the landing gear , Is it like robart gear ? ...How are the wings held on ? Sorry for all the questions but I am really interested . Thanks and post lots of pics of your build....

I have had a few more questions about this plane. I did get a chance to take some more pics. Those of you that are familiar with the E-flite SuperCub 25e, I can tell you that construction of the Hangar 9 version is very similiar. The main wings are held on with thumb screws which are accessed through the removeable window hatch in the top unlike the 25e which you have to access through the cabin door. I took some pics of the interior of the fuse and some of the servose are hidden below hatches in the floor. The servos for the elev and rudd areplaced side by sideas you can see in the pics looking toward the rear from inside. The control yokes double as the screws to hold the floor hatch covers shut. All the hardware is 4-40 threaded or soldered links but the elevator and rudder have the nylon horns. Aileron and flaps have molded in horns. Also, the control link for the ailerons is on the top of the wing and has a dome shaped cover just as the full scale plane. The gauges are recessed with clear lenses over each gauge and looks real nice. The main landing gear are actually larger versions of theE-flite 25eones except for the damper struts which actually use rubberbands and do provide some spring. The E-flite gear did have some movement to them but I found them a little stiff. These should work very well. The tailgear looks very nice as well and the is made of carbon fiber. As for the engine I want to use...I was looking at either the FG-21 or the FG-30. I feel that the FG-21 may not quite be enough. Saito has released a new version of the FG-30 called the FG-30b which has a new pickup sensor and ignition. I think I am going with that. From my calculations, the valve covers will barely stick out the side when mounted horizontally. Thanks, Jason.

Would it be stupid to put smoke on this unit? Would there be room for the tank and the pump?
